Law said prior cooperation from the town helped the group qualify for grants at this level and stressed the association was not requesting town money — only cooperation and a municipal letter confirming support and assistance with permitting if the grant is awarded.
Council members discussed the likely permit steps and acknowledged that, if the grant is awarded, the association would return with a contractor and request standard permitting. Counsel and staff agreed Julie Rivera would prepare a template that would be put on town letterhead and signed by the president/mayor or appropriate official. The motion instructing the president to sign the letter of support passed 6–0.
The Historical Association said the project is to replace and properly repair the museum roof, which volunteers report requires full replacement rather than periodic shingle patches.
