Board approves routine consent items, personnel slate and an expulsion under the student-discipline plan

The Springfield School District 186 board approved a package of consent agenda items, routine personnel recommendations and a student-discipline action at the June 1 meeting.
Consent approvals included awarding the food-service vendor contract to MJ Kelner (lowest bidder), a gym-floor replacement at Graham Elementary, approval for summer meal service, a reduced AVID licensing scope and a contract with Canvas Learning Management System. The slate of consent items (identified in the agenda as items 114—118) was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote recorded as six "I" votes.
Superintendent Gil recommended adoption of personnel recommendations; the board approved the personnel slate by voice vote.
Under the student-discipline agenda, the board reviewed and approved the student discipline improvement plan and, pursuant to cited Illinois School Code provisions, voted to expel one ninth-grade student from Lanford High School through the end of the 2026—27 school year with placement in a program. The motion to expel was moved and seconded and carried by a recorded voice vote described in the transcript as six "I" votes.
Financial and administrative approvals also included a resolution designating district depositories and a consolidated districtwide plan for federal funds; both were approved.
What's next: staff will proceed with vendor contracts and implementation steps and will administer the expulsion program placement as approved by the board.
