Commission approves small memberships for trails and housing coalition, hears grant outreach update

The Windham Regional Commission’s executive committee unanimously approved two membership requests and received updates on grant outreach.
By motion, the commission agreed to pay $250 to join Vermont Trails and Greenways so that a staff or commissioner seat can represent the commission on that council. Commissioners said the invitation and Jeff’s expertise on trails made the membership an appropriate, low-cost option.
Separately, the committee voted to continue a $500 membership supporting a regional Housing Coalition that brings together housing trusts, authorities and nonprofits. Both votes were unanimous.
In the director’s report, staff described outreach to towns for federal and state hazard-mitigation grant proposals. The meeting noted a $25,000 supplemental allocation to support development of hazard-mitigation proposals; staff encouraged towns to identify projects for state-level submission ahead of the January deadline for some buyout funding programs.
What’s next: staff will notify the membership organizations, bill the commission for dues, and continue outreach to towns regarding hazard-mitigation project development.
