Town discusses transfer-station inspection, running water and security camera plans

Staff said some magnetic signs had fallen off containers; replacement signs were ordered. One staff member noted the lack of running water at the transfer station: "There's a porta potty," and "No" when asked whether running water was available. Board members discussed options including drilling a well and adding a heated building to avoid frozen pipes; the solid-waste committee suggested budgeting for a heated facility or water service in 2027 rather than this coming year.
The meeting also reviewed a recent incident in which oil containers were left while the gates were locked, raising questions about how people are accessing the site after-hours. Officials said security cameras have been purchased and installation at the transfer station was scheduled for the coming Saturday.
On access control, the board discussed hiring a fencing contractor separate from the company doing nearby guardrail work. The town also will investigate whether insurance claims exist for repeated guardrail damage on College Road.
Board members acknowledged staff resource constraints and said many fixes will be scheduled as time and budget allow. The board did not adopt a new policy at the June 1 meeting; members asked staff to follow up on gate installation options, camera installation progress and whether an investment for a heated structure with running water should be proposed for the 2027 budget.
