Washington County Election Commission outlines summer outreach, youth voting activities

Miss Jennifer Price, representing the Washington County Election Commission, briefed the committee on a set of summer outreach activities designed to increase civic engagement ahead of next elections. "We have launched again the I voted sticker contest," she said, describing two categories (K–8 and 9–12) and asking schools and families to submit designs; the entry deadline is June 12. Finalists will be selected by a commission meeting with in‑person voting on June 18 and online voting June 22–25.

Price also described a child‑focused mock election called "Elections" (branded informally in committee as "Electionosaurus") that lets children use programmed voting equipment and paper ballots at county libraries; events are scheduled in Elkins (July 1), Prairie Grove (July 9), Springdale (July 11) and West Fork (July 22). She said the program gives children hands‑on exposure to the voting process and that the commission will post times and event details on its social media channels (Facebook: Washington County, Arkansas Election Commission).

The commission is also restarting a ‘‘future voter’’ program to introduce young people to ballots and is coordinating September training to recruit high‑school students as poll workers for the general election. Committee members commended the outreach and asked where to find details; Price directed them to the commission’s Facebook page and local libraries where materials and entry forms are available.

No action was required; the committee received the report and commended the election staff.
