Nine organizations apply for Orange County opioid mini-grants; total requests below available pool

Randy reported that nine organizations submitted opioid settlement mini-grant applications through the foundation portal. He said the nine applications total approximately $75,000 in requests and preliminarily meet the program’s schedule and requirements, though a small number may need additional review related to allowable uses.
Applicants and requested amounts (as reported): Gateway Ministry ($10,000); Orange County Food Trust ($6,332); Tobacco Prevention ($10,000); Orleans Food Pantry ($3,000); Paoli Police Department ($7,000); Safe Haven ($8,700); SIC ($10,000); Team Peace ($10,000); Youth First ($10,000).
Randy said the county will compile an Excel spreadsheet with applicants’ plans and schedules and that the Community Foundation will hold a board meeting on July 1 to approve distribution timing; a county check presentation is tentatively scheduled for the commissioners’ July 23 meeting. Commissioners praised the outreach and marketing used to solicit applications.
Why it matters: opioid-ministry settlement funds are intended for prevention, treatment and recovery supports. The county’s process routes applications through the community foundation to align scoring and distribution with the settlement terms and local priorities.
Next steps: staff will prepare consolidated applicant materials for the foundation and the commission.
