Horsham Township formally swore in Jeffrey H. Woodruff as a police lieutenant during the council meeting. Woodruff, who has served with the township police for 31 years, took the oath before council, staff and family.
Officials outlined Woodruff’s background: he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Shippensburg University, was hired in June 1993, and was promoted to sergeant in 2005. Speakers highlighted his work as a field training officer, numerous commendations and incidents in which he interrupted two suicide attempts and handled armed, mentally unsettled subjects.
At the ceremony, Woodruff recited the oath of office and accepted the responsibilities of lieutenant. Staff said that after the promotion he will serve as the department’s Patrol commander, responsible for the Patrol Division. Family members at the meeting included his wife, Tracy, his daughter, Eva, and his son Mike, who traveled from Virginia for the event.
The council and police command marked the occasion with the customary badge pinning and photographs.
