Angela Rivera, who gave her address as 132 Fort Pleasant Avenue, told the council she founded a freight-brokerage business and runs a nonprofit, Trade Corps, focused on transportation and trades training. "Redevelopment is not just about the people. It's about jobs creating more economic development and providing better quality of life," Rivera said.
Councilors spoke in support. Councilor Perez said he had recently observed Rivera's engagement at a local convention and called her "a dynamic woman." Councilor Govan, Councilor Finton and Councilor Edwards cited Rivera's experience and community ties. "She's one of our own, homegrown," Councilor Edwards said.
The council moved the appointment forward and the clerk recorded the roll call; the item was approved and the council welcomed Rivera to the Authority. One councilor was recorded absent for the vote (Councelor Delgado). The council did not discuss conditions or amendments to the appointment during the meeting.
Rivera's appointment places an entrepreneur with experience in freight logistics and workforce-focused programming on the body that guides redevelopment projects and downtown real-estate strategy.
