The Weddington Parks and Events Advisory Board swore in two new members at the start of its June 1 meeting and adopted its regular meeting calendar for the year. Mayor Jim Bell administered the oath to Marie Cruz and a second new board member.
The board convened at 6:03 p.m. with a five-member quorum. The board reviewed a circulated calendar and moved to remove the Sept. 7, 2026 meeting date (Labor Day) from the schedule. A motion to remove that date was made and seconded and the schedule was approved.
Board members also confirmed the participation expectations for absences: the mayor had noted that more than three absences in a calendar year could trigger a request to step down, though legitimate illnesses or emergencies would be considered. The board agreed the attendance count would reset in January 2027.
New members introduced themselves after the oath. Gail Butler summarized her long residency in Weddington and experience with local athletics; Amarie Cruz said she recently moved back full time and that her family owns Hunter Farm; Paula Smith noted a logistics-and-events background; Casti noted financial expertise as a CPA; Sundar Santanam and Mike Patreo also introduced themselves as new or recent residents.
The board said it will finalize logistical details and follow up at its July meeting. The meeting recording remained active and members arranged to take a group photo before departing.
