The McCandless Environmental Advisory Committee on Sept. 10 recommended a $6,000 draft budget for calendar year 2026 and voted to join Birdtown PA, a municipal partnership program, at the meeting.
Members discussed staffing and program costs and concluded that $6,000 would cover routine communications, small event costs and tree-program needs, while larger planting projects would rely on grants and sponsorships. Committee members asked staff to convey the committee’s budget preference to borough administration for inclusion in the town’s budget discussions.
Separately, the committee considered joining Birdtown PA, a regional program that provides outreach resources, native-plant information and a speaker series. Members discussed the modest obligations — an annual $100 fee and an annual report — and then moved, seconded and voted in favor of adopting a resolution to join and pay the fee. The membership is intended to formalize EAC outreach and give local access to regional resources; members said the group already meets most of the program’s criteria.
