The Brown County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved several routine but consequential items at its meeting, including a cyclical reassessment contract, a consulting contract tied to Elkinsville Road Bridge (Bridge 43) and a one-year legal retainer for $48,000.
Commissioners voted to approve the minutes and claims as presented. The board then approved a four-year cyclical reassessment contract (approximately $395,000 total) contingent on the county attorney's review. A motion to approve the Bridge 43 consulting agreement — which governs planning phases funded largely by an INDOT/federal grant — passed on the same contingency that legal signoff be completed before the contract is finalized.
The board also approved a one-year retainer with Barnes and Thornberg at $48,000, an increase from the prior year. Commissioners noted the retainer covers ordinance and contract review and discussed conflict-of-interest concerns that can arise when a large firm represents multiple local clients. County attorney Mike said the work would be covered under the retainer.
Each motion was seconded and carried by roll call votes recorded as yes by Ron, Tim and Kevin.
