The Chair of the Sunbury Personnel Board of Appeals on the evening of the meeting presented and the board approved an eligibility list for hiring one Maintenance Worker 1/2, voting 2–0. The board also approved minutes from its Nov. 17 meeting before taking up the hiring list.
The Chair told members the packet included three names and attached resumes for the position and explained the board’s role: ‘‘the personnel board of appeals hiring process allows for an interview or a resume and an interview process and then a sorting of the qualified applicants, and then it brings it to you for approval of the eligibility list,’’ the Chair said. The Chair recommended approving the list and allowing the service director to pursue hiring.
The Chair described the top-ranked candidate, Mr. Redmond, as having ‘‘over almost nearly 30 years of experience’’ in public service, including a supervisory role with the city of Upper Arlington and earlier work in Burlington; he said Redmond retired in February and lives near Sunbury. The Chair also noted Redmond’s experience with safety protocols, coordination with police, staff management and snow-and-ice operations, and said those skills match the municipality’s needs for street, stormwater and facilities maintenance.
The Chair contrasted the other two applicants as working in heating, ventilation and air conditioning and having some landscaping experience and mechanical aptitude but not the same depth of municipal experience in streets, lighting and storm systems.
Following the presentation and recommendation, the board moved and seconded the motion to approve the eligibility list. Miss Berger and Mister Wood voted yes; Miss Fazza was absent. The Chair said the list is ordered by priority and the service director intends to pursue hiring one individual from that list.
With no further business, a motion to adjourn passed 2–0 and the meeting ended. The service director will continue the hiring process under the approved eligibility list.
