Commission grants routine administrative approvals, postpones several items to February

At the Jan. 7 meeting, Portsmouth’s Historic District Commission approved a slate of administrative items and postponed several public hearings and work sessions to the February meeting.
Staff presented five administrative approvals: 232 Court St., Unit 2 (homeowner requested removal of a previous white-charger/post stipulation after purchasing black fixtures; commission allowed the change and confirmed the post will be black); 6 Dearborn St. (rear side entry replacement, dimensionally unchanged); 139 South St., Unit A (window relocation); 39 Homes Court (change from Hardie paneling to another engineered siding and a minor third-floor window type change for egress); and 163 Islington St. (Cafe installation of a window matching existing fenestration). Commissioners approved the administrative items by motion.
The commission also agreed to postpone two public hearings (40 Market St. and 366 Islington St.) and two work sessions (77 State St. and 30 Walden St.) to the February meeting to allow applicants time to address outstanding issues and, in one case, respond to HOA feedback.
Commissioners reminded applicants that approvals require applicants to seek approval before purchasing materials; staff said the commission would continue to handle minor accessory deviations on a case-by-case basis.
