Bedford board approves Bedford Village parking pilot and veteran banner program

The Town of Bedford board on May 20 approved two community-focused initiatives: a three-month Bedford Village parking pilot and a veterans banner program.
The Bedford Village Business Association asked the board to change selected one-hour parking spaces to two-hour spaces for a three-month pilot to help shoppers and library patrons linger longer. The Chair and board discussed the pilot’s scope, noting the memo circled the affected spots and estimating about 12–15 spaces would change; the town will put up temporary or replacement signage and start the pilot by the end of the next week. The board approved the pilot by motion and said the change could be reversed if turnover problems increase.
Separately the board authorized an agreement with NICEG to place veteran banners on utility poles from September through Veterans Day. The program will allow current Bedford residents who are veterans or active-duty service members to purchase or request banners listing name and service period (or 'present' for active duty); organizers said respondents preferred names only and did not want photos. The board noted no cost from NICEG and coordination with DPW on installation and removal. The motions for both programs carried without recorded opposition.
