During the June 1 meeting the Board of Selectmen handled two appointments and discussed last month’s public forum on fire‑station planning.
The board moved to appoint Regina Chhatel to the Willington Housing Authority, effective June 1, 2026, with a term noted in the motion to expire Aug. 1, 2031; during roll call one selectman voiced opposition before the motion proceeded. The board also appointed Brian Smith to the Willington Parks and Recreation Commission, term effective June 1, 2026 and expiring Dec. 15, 2026; that motion was seconded and recorded as unanimous.
Selectmen who attended a May 27 special meeting on emergency services and the fire‑building committee told the board the session featured a consultant presentation, drew public input despite some members being called to emergency responses elsewhere, and will feed into development of alternative station configurations and preliminary cost estimates to support grant applications. The board said it will solicit public feedback while consultants translate options into preliminary cost structures for the committee to consider.
The appointments were recorded on the meeting agenda and the board discussed aligning committee term dates where necessary; no contested hearings or additional committee votes were taken at the session.
