Willington board is alerting residents about Everbridge signups and preparing for ADA website compliance

The Willington Board of Selectmen on June 1 reviewed a draft postcard designed to reach every household with instructions for signing up for Everbridge emergency alerts and other town updates. Board members said a one‑time postcard in the same size used by the school building committee would likely cost about $1,200–$1,500 to mail to the town's roughly 1,300 single‑family addresses.

"One of the primary purposes of that postcard is to get in everyone's mailbox saying this is how you get signed up for alerts," one selectman said during discussion of content and distribution frequency. Members discussed whether mailings should be quarterly, how to prioritize committee submissions, and the administrative time required to collect items for the card.

Separately, the first selectman alerted the board to a compliance timeline for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for municipal websites. "Larger towns have to be compliant this year in 2026. Smaller towns like Willington have to become compliant in 2027," he said, describing the changes as likely to affect how public documents are published and noting that costs and specific work remain under review. Town staff said they had begun introductory meetings with their website vendor and that the town clerk, who serves as the current web manager, has been involved in early planning.

Board members signaled willingness to consider funding or personnel changes to meet requirements but did not vote on a specific budget item. The town will continue researching vendor options, anticipated pricing tiers, and priorities for the postcard content and ADA remediation work.
