West Bend BID grapples with more façade grant requests than funds and coordinates Sixth Street banner repairs

Board staff told the West Bend BID Board on June 2 that the façade grant program has attracted eight applications — possibly the largest group to date — and that total requested funding exceeds the amount currently budgeted.
John said the selection committee meeting is being rescheduled so as many committee members as possible can attend; staff will either update the board by email or bring the item back in August. Members noted individual requests in the $7,000–$10,000 range and cautioned that choices may be difficult if budgeted funds do not cover the full slate of proposals.
Separately, staff and board members discussed streetscape maintenance on Sixth Street. They reported missing or broken banner brackets that left gaps in the display; staff will coordinate with Phil and public works to assess which brackets need repair and to rebalance banners along Sixth Street and other blocks so the corridor appears consistent.
John also said a potential donor is being pursued for planting on Sixth Street; if that donor is not available staff will explore other community donors or service clubs to support plantings. The board clarified that a $3,900 maintenance figure discussed in the packet covers both planting beds (library and Hickory) as an add-on to the landscaping contract if approved.
What’s next: Staff will schedule the façade grant committee meeting and report back, coordinate bracket repairs with public works, and continue donor outreach for Sixth Street landscaping.
