Corte Madera climate committee warns it could lack quorum as four terms expire

The Corte Madera Climate Action Committee on May 20 was urged to ramp up recruitment after staff reported that four committee member terms expire June 30 and only one seat had been filled.

Staff said Sarah was reappointed by the town council and reminded members that the committee’s establishing resolution requires no fewer than five and no more than seven members, with one seat reserved for youth. "Our town attorney's recommendation is that the committee not conduct any business if we don't have five members," staff said, framing the urgency to fill vacancies before July 1.

Committee members discussed a range of recruitment channels already in use — the town newsletter, the town Facebook page, Nextdoor and postings on the town website — and proposed targeted outreach at upcoming public events. Members recommended tabling at the Friendly Garden Tour and considering July 4 tabling as well as placing posters at community hubs to publicize the vacancy.

For the youth-designated seat, members described a new connection between the committee and Redwood High School through Zero Waste Marin and said a fall recruitment push may be practical because students return to school then. "Find a rising senior who's interested," one member suggested; staff said the youth seat's term currently aligns with the regular committee term and expires at the end of June.

The committee agreed to continue accepting applications until the vacancy is filled and to add event tabling and recruitment status to the next agenda. The group formally approved the April 15 minutes at the start of the meeting and then moved into outreach and program updates.
