Commission reviews pondweed pilot, approves shed permit administratively and issues a violation letter

At its meeting, the Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Commission received several administrative updates from staff including the pondweed pilot program, an administrative approval for a storage garage at Camp the Lama, and a newly issued violation letter for sand placed in a wetland area.
Savannah reported the pondweed pilot drew eight applications, the largest approved plot being about 1,000 square feet. Applicants have until June 12 to finish removal under the pilot; staff said there is currently no strict plot-size limit and suggested varying plot sizes in future rounds. "There's eight, they have until June 12 to finish the work of removal," Savannah said.
Savannah also reported an administrative approval for a storage shed at Camp the Lama. She said the proposed garage is roughly 61–62 feet from nearby forested wetlands, outside the 200-foot lake buffer but within 100 feet of wetlands; because the shed location was already cleared, staff treated it as an administrative approval.
On enforcement, Savannah said she sent a violation letter last week to a Route 87 property where sand had been brought in to create a beach-like area. Staff reminded the commission that sand constitutes fill within a wetland and must be removed; as of the meeting staff had not received a response from the property owner.
The commission noted the items and directed staff to follow up on the violation and monitor pilot removals.
