The council, convened as the Board of License Commission, opened a public hearing and voted to grant a Class BB (full) liquor license to Newport Creamery Restaurants LLC for the 2025–2026 licensing year for premises at 208 West Main Road.
Councilors confirmed the application resulted from a change of ownership and that granting the license would use one of the municipality’s available full liquor license slots. One councilor questioned whether a full liquor license was available and staff confirmed that one of the town’s remaining full licenses would be used. During the hearing a councilor quipped about beer floats as part of the business model; after discussion the commission closed the hearing, moved to grant the license, and carried the motion with at least one council member recorded as opposed on the vote.
The license will be issued for the premises pending the usual administrative processing associated with license issuance and the license-count constraints noted on the record.
