Middletown reports steady progress on Valley Elementary and high/middle school projects

Town Administrator Ed provided the council with updates on multiple school construction projects, saying both the Valley Elementary and the high school/middle school projects remain on schedule and within budget.
At Valley Elementary, Ed said contractor Bentley has mobilized with storage trailers onsite and construction will begin when school dismisses for the summer. Furniture and playground procurement are slated for early fall and the project team has swapped some items between phases to keep critical staging and move-in areas available next summer. "We've brought the painting of the cafeteria and the gymnasium from phase three back into phase two because it's going to be crucial next summer," Ed said, noting those spaces will be used for staging during furniture moves.
For the high school/middle school complex, Ed reported that steel work is mostly complete, fireproofing spray is ongoing in some buildings and floors, ductwork and refrigerant lines are being installed, and the air vapor barrier on one elevation has been completed and is being tested. Masonry work was due to begin imminently and the job typically has more than 130 trade workers on site daily; that number will increase as masonry ramps up. Ed described the project as "on time, on budget."
Councilors asked operational questions, including schedule constraints for summer work in areas needing elevators, roofs and sprinkler piping; Ed said crews would prioritize work that would not risk damage and aim to complete a bulk of summer tasks before school reopens. The administration said it will continue to provide schedule updates and procurement notices to the council.
