Jay Black of Diamond Properties said Tesla has been using the vacant former dealership site to receive roughly 14 truck deliveries per week, and that trucks have at times idled or unloaded in the neighborhood because there is no gate. He proposed a manually operated gate at the front entrance, signage directing drivers to an alternate delivery location at 333 North Bedford and a knock‑box arrangement to ensure emergency access.
Board members emphasized the need to coordinate with the fire department and the fire marshal before any approval. Members also raised operational questions about the proposed 34‑ft setback: while that length will allow a car to pull in so an employee can unlock the gate, it will not accommodate a delivery truck and could leave a truck encroaching on North Bedford Road if drivers attempt to wait at the gate. The applicant said the gate is intended only for after‑hours access control; daytime deliveries would still be permitted on site and the signage will be revised to show relocation hours and instructions.
Members suggested aesthetic refinements (posts or colors that fit Bedford’s commercial context) and recommended the applicant return with fire‑department sign‑off and a final gate design before the board considers approval.
