Haskell County commissioners approve $450,000 sheriff grant application, resource officer MOU and routine procurements

The Haskell County Commissioners unanimously approved several administrative and public-safety items during their meeting, including a $450,000 sheriff's assistance grant application, a memorandum of understanding to place a resource officer with Whitefield Public Schools, creation of an Emergency Management PECard, and multiple procurement actions.

Staff told the board that an amendment to Resolution 312638 was needed to correct an account number; the commission approved the corrected resolution. Commissioners also approved a small change order with VIP Voice Services to add a backup setup for the county Election Board at an additional $25 per month.

The board signed a memorandum of understanding between the Haskell County Sheriff's Office and Whitefield Public Schools to provide a school resource officer and approved continued contract negotiations as needed. Commissioners also approved Resolution 312641, authorizing a sheriff's assistance grant application and related agreement for about $450,000 to cover equipment and training for the sheriff's office.

Separately, the commissioners authorized staff to solicit six-month bids for road maintenance materials and services — including gravel, asphalt, road oils, grader blades, asphalt labor, drug testing and trucking — and approved appropriations and transfers including ARPA-account cleanup and the creation of an emergency-management donation account.

All recorded motions on these items passed unanimously, with Clark McLaren, Larry Watson and Billy Cloud recorded as voting yes on the motions.
