The East Hempfield Recreation Authority discussed competing irrigation-system quotes May 27 after staff presented a new vendor estimate that reduced an earlier $1.8 million figure to about $1.4 million.
Board members noted the quoted price is valid through June 13, 2026, and that the project would ideally start in fall or early spring to avoid peak irrigation season. Staff said they will obtain a third written quote for comparison and that one vendor identified a potential $100,000 savings option that is "nice to have" but not necessary to complete the replacement.
The board also directed staff to investigate grant opportunities for irrigation-system upgrades; staff reported that nearby courses have received grants for similar work and Don (staff) is checking potential eligibility. No contract was approved at the meeting; members said a final decision will depend on the additional quote, grant outcomes and budget availability.
