Wethersfield proclaims June Pride Month; resident urges council for year‑round support and funding

The Wethersfield Town Council read and adopted a proclamation declaring June 2026 as Pride Month, commemorating the Stonewall uprising and affirming the town’s commitment to safety, dignity and inclusion for LGBTQIA+ residents.
During the public‑comment period, Melody Bulani (59 Toler Terrace) told the council the proclamation should be followed by concrete year‑round support. Bulani asked the council whether the town would provide funding and resources — not just promotion — to support LGBTQ+ initiatives, and proposed partnerships with Connecticut Pride and help coordinating local pop‑up events.
"Will we have the support of the town for LGBTQ plus initiatives? not just promotion but actual funding and resources," Melody Bulani said, and asked whether the council could commit to support beyond June.
Bulani also noted national political currents she said are affecting LGBTQ+ people and asked the council to treat ongoing supports as public‑safety and health measures rather than political gestures. She handed printed materials to the clerk and requested follow‑up contact from each councilor.
Mayor Leser thanked Bulani, and the town manager and clerk will follow up on the materials and any requests for coordination or town support. The council did not vote on funding at the meeting; Bulani’s request was placed in the public record for staff follow‑up and possible future action.
