Huntertown council approves financial engagement, supports Byron sale packet and backs $9,000 fireworks donation

The Huntertown Town Council voted on several routine but consequential items at its June meeting, approving an outside financial engagement, agreeing to a sale‑packet support letter for a former health‑center site, contributing to Heritage Days fireworks and approving a staff promotion.
Council members approved an engagement with Cruz and Associates to provide financial analysis and support for a proposed water‑revenue bond that would finance expansion of the town’s water‑treatment capacity by 1.5 million gallons per day. Town staff said Cruz will work with finance staff and engineering partners and that any bond issuance would return to council for final approval.
The council also approved sending a letter of support to county staff to include in the public bidding packet for the former Byron Health Center site. Town staff said the draft letter summarizes the town’s vision for the site, describes rezoning steps and notes available water and sewer connections; the letter will inform prospective bidders during the county’s public auction process.
Festival organizers requested municipal sponsorship for Heritage Days fireworks. Kayla Conrad, festival treasurer, told the council the vendor’s base price for a show similar to previous years is about $8,800 and that an expanded patriotic show would cost about $10,000. Council members voted to contribute $9,000 toward the fireworks.
On personnel and utility matters, the council approved a promotion in the utility office after the utility board reviewed the employee’s duties and recommended a step increase. Councilors also approved Resolution 2026‑011 to permit a water and sewer connection at 603 East Cedar Canyon while the property owner’s annexation paperwork is processed.
Separately, the council authorized the hiring committee to finalize and onboard a candidate for the street department so the department can fill a staffing shortage quickly during its busy season.
