Pleasant Valley board votes to advertise for Conservation Advisory Council volunteers

The Pleasant Valley town board voted May 21 to advertise for volunteers to serve on the Conservation Advisory Council (CAC), a body that advises the planning board on environmental and conservation aspects of development proposals.
Members of the Climate Smart task force told the board the CAC remains established by resolution but is not currently seated with members. The group suggested advertising for applicants and then deciding whether to maintain the council size at seven, reduce to five, or allow three members (the state-minimum) based on response and workload. Town attorney Emily Swenson reminded the board that changing the council’s authorized size would require a local law and public hearing.
Board members agreed the first step should be to advertise openings; if few applicants respond the board could later pursue an amendment to reduce the council’s size. The motion to advertise passed on a voice vote.
The CAC’s main function is to advise the planning board on environmental concerns in applications and to help monitor compliance when projects are approved.
