The Hot Springs City Board adopted Resolution R-26-103 on June 2 to condemn a residential structure at 504 West Belding and authorize demolition and removal.
Neighborhood Services Manager James Hardage told the board inspectors found broken and missing windows, rotting exterior walls, damaged soffit and fascia, failing floor joists and a compromised exterior door. Hardage said the owner, identified in the staff report as Olita (also transcribed as Alita) Smith of Abbeville, Louisiana, contacted the city asking for assistance and returned a notarized consent for demolition after staff discussed options and inspected the property.
Anthony Smith, introduced to the board as the owner’s son, told directors the house is in very poor condition, described repeated trespass and people staying in the structure and urged the city to remove the building to prevent further neighborhood impacts.
Hardage said notices were sent, a placard posted and a limited title search showed no additional owners of interest. The board took a roll-call vote and adopted the resolution authorizing condemnation and removal.
Action: Resolution R-26-103 adopted; staff to proceed in accordance with code procedures for demolition and property notifications.
