County promotes mobile animal-care, consumer protections and fire-hazard abatement

San Bernardino County officials outlined several community services aimed at public safety and consumer protection, including mobile animal-care services, consumer-device inspections and a fire-hazard abatement program.
Animal-care staff said a mobile unit will provide vaccines, microchipping and licensing in unincorporated areas and at shelters before adoption to improve access for residents who cannot travel. "It's been terrific. Yeah, it's very smooth, organized so far. Seamless," one participant said when describing the service.
The county———s consumer-protection division reported it performed about 44,000 inspections last year (about half were retail motor fuel). Inspectors verify measuring-device accuracy using test measures certified by the California State Metrology Lab, check labeling and remove dispensers from service if errors that could harm consumers are found. The office investigated 56 retail motor-fuel complaints last year and works with businesses to correct noncompliance.
Officials described the Fire Hazard Abatement Program (administered by code enforcement under county fire authority) as a proactive effort to identify hazards, promote defensible space and encourage home-hardening techniques so first responders can operate safely. Seasonal inspections look for combustible debris and unsafe vegetation and aim to strengthen neighborhoods against wildfire risk.
Why it matters: The combined services reduce barriers to pet care, enforce consumer protections at the point of sale and aim to reduce wildfire impacts on homes and emergency responders. Residents were directed to county animal-care social channels and websites for schedules and to county web pages for consumer and fire program information.
