Supervisors back dimensional variance for deck at 17 Tmont Drive

East Goshen supervisors voted unanimously Monday to support a dimensional variance for a resident who wants to rebuild and expand an existing side deck on a nonconforming lot.
Derek introduced the matter and said the property is already legal nonconforming. The homeowner, Aaron Sheffield, told the board the side yard faces a 27 percent grade and that the existing slate steps erode each year; the proposed new decking would provide safer, more consistent access to the backyard and replace rotted decking.
The planning commission had recommended approval and two supervisors who attended the planning meeting described the application as reasonable and safety‑oriented. A motion to support the variance was made, seconded and carried 5–0.
With the board’s support the matter will move to the zoning hearing board, which will make the final determination.
