Greenville County school leaders close FY27 budget hearing with no public comments; second reading set for 6:30 p.m.

The Greenville County School District concluded the public hearing on its FY27 general fund budget after officials announced that no members of the public had signed up to speak, and the board recessed the public session at 6:02 p.m. A second reading of the budget is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom.

The chair opened the item by calling for public comments and noting there were no registrants. "It is so great to see everyone present today and we certainly appreciate everyone who's here," the chair said, framing the absence of public testimony as a sign of community support for the district and the proposed budget. The chair then announced the public hearing was closed and invited attendees to return for the second reading.

Before the public session ended, a board member asked to make a brief remark thanking parents of a student artist who will participate in an arms program next year and asked the child to stand so the board could recognize them. The board member’s brief remarks were acknowledged by the chair as an expression of support for students, teachers and the school district.

The board recessed the public session after a motion to adjourn the session was made by Mr. Sailors and seconded by Mrs. Leventus Wales; members were asked to indicate their approval aloud and the chair stated, "The motion carries." The public hearing was adjourned at 6:02 p.m., with the board to reconvene in the boardroom at 6:30 p.m. for the budget’s second reading.
