Monument rezones Beacon Light water tank site to Public zoning; council votes 5-0

The Monument Town Council approved Ordinance 14-2026 on first/final reading to apply Public zoning to the Beacon Light water tank site annexed earlier this year. Planner Jenna Gourney told the council the annexation and easement acquisitions completed a multi-year effort to bring the water-tank site and a portion of Beacon Light Road into town limits; Colorado statute requires newly annexed land receive zoning within 90 days of the annexation effective date.
Gourney recommended rezoning the parcel to the Public (P) district to reflect the site nd its long-standing use s a municipal water facility and to enable ongoing operations and future infrastructure improvements. She said the request met review criteria in the town—ode and noted the planning commission had voted 6-0 to recommend approval.
The council opened a public hearing; no one spoke in person or online. A councilor moved to approve Ordinance 14-2026; the motion was seconded and passed 5-0. The ordinance becomes effective in accordance with the town's publication rules. There were no amendments or conditions attached at adoption.
