Ruidoso councilors reviewed a resolution to allow recreational vehicles and travel trailers to serve as temporary housing for residents whose homes were affected by recent fires and floods.
Staff described Resolution 2026-0102 as a narrowly tailored measure: property owners must apply and the provision is intended only for those directly affected during construction and recovery. "This resolution just simply allows them to place an RVer or travel trailer on their property which currently is not in in alliance with the ordinance," staff said.
Councilors asked whether the village was tracking how many people were using this allowance; staff replied they were not maintaining a formal count and knew of three cases. The council discussed whether the temporary authorization should be extended; staff said the current allowance expires in late July and could be rolled forward by one year if the council chooses.
No final vote was recorded at the workshop; staff said the resolution would be brought back with corrected dates and details for formal action.
