The Dubois County Commissioners unanimously approved a motion to hire W. Nick Pagragan as the county Veteran Services Officer and approved the services he has provided to date. The action was taken at the board's May 18 meeting in Jasper.
County President Chad A. Blessinger presented a staffing proposal from Veteran Services Officer Nick Pagragan recommending that the office move from part-time hours to a full 40-hour workweek. The board did not adopt the staffing change immediately; instead, members said the proposal will be considered as part of the 2027 budget process.
The hiring motion carried without recorded dissent. The agenda item also included an operational decision on faxing for veterans: "not to charge a fee to send or receive faxes for veteran services; however, personal use is not permitted," the board recorded. No additional funding or start date for expanded hours was set; the board directed that the staffing-hours recommendation be reviewed during budget planning for 2027.
The next regular meeting was scheduled for June 1, 2026, when budget-related proposals will move closer to committee and appropriation review.
