Linn County commissioners approve routine claims, equipment rebuild and insurance payout

A commissioner moved and the board unanimously approved last week’s minutes and two claims sheets, described in the record as approximately $314,266.86 and $1,311. The board also approved ads and abates for 2025 items 313–315 and 317–318, recording a total change of $81.52.
On equipment, staff said the drive motor for a county loader needs rebuilding. A commissioner moved to authorize a rebuild with a one‑year parts‑and‑labor warranty; the motion passed. Staff had presented an alternative — a used replacement from out of state with no warranty — but told the board a rebuild was preferred to avoid recurring breakdowns.
The board approved payment of a past‑due invoice to Pepper Corn Engineering for preliminary work on the north half of the county’s high‑risk road project 1095; staff reported $31,000 remained outstanding on that contract.
Commissioners also accepted an insurer’s total‑loss payout for a park pickup. The payment amount recorded in the meeting was $7,858; the board approved accepting the check and directed staff to bring replacement options back to the board.
There was no recorded dissent on the motions; in each case the motion was moved, seconded and carried with all present voting in favor.
Next steps: staff will return with options and cost estimates where projects require further commitments, including replacement equipment and right‑of‑way or utility relocation costs tied to other infrastructure work.
