CPC hears updates on Styles & Hart Park and Hansen Farm trail; survey and conservation steps next

Members of the Community Preservation Committee heard detailed project updates for two open-space projects and discussed next procurement steps.
Carlton Hunt summarized progress on the Hansen Farm trail: the Hanson family is laying out a proposed trail that must receive approval from Wildlands Trust (which holds the conservation restriction) and then from the conservation commission before construction can proceed. Hunt emphasized the sequence: lay out the trail, secure Wildlands Trust approval of the alignment with the co-holding concom, then obtain the conservation commission’s sign-off.
On Styles & Hart Park, committee members said a southern-end survey is planned (staff expects the procurement to fall under an RFQ because costs are likely under $50,000). Hunt said the Styles & Hart account currently holds roughly $780,000; the committee agreed that the project needs rescoping and rebidding to match available funds and finalize scope (accessible trail, bridge over a wet area, and connections to the Town River Landing and an existing rail trail). Gina and staff noted a small grant reimbursement already received and said engineering and parks/recreation input will be required before work begins.
Pat reported the multifunctional fields behind the old high school have been awarded to Silver Engineering of Bridgewater for survey and initial engineering (~$20,000 contract, $25,000 appropriation). That brief survey work will be coordinated with the recreation department to avoid peak use times.
No final funding awards were made at the meeting; staff were directed to post the survey RFQ, coordinate conservation-restriction language with the town attorney and provide applicant-ready procurement packages.
