Robbins mayor announces 30-day transition and police chief search; board approves street closure for April Easter Egg Hunt

Mayor Darren E. Bryant opened the Village of Robbins regular meeting on April 8, 2025, and told trustees the village is entering a 30-day transition period during which he has appointed temporary committee chair assignments until a new board is sworn in. Bryant said finding and swearing in a new police chief before the first meeting with the incoming board is a major priority and that red notices will be issued and the moratorium is over.
The board approved the regular minutes of March 25, 2025. Trustee Thomas Harper moved approval; Trustee Ernest Maxey Jr. seconded. The clerk recorded roll-call ayes from Trustees David R. Dyson, Maxey, Harper and Michael Collier Sr.; Trustees Gregory N. Jackson and Tiffany S. Robinson were absent. The motion carried.
Under new business, Trustee Michael Collier Sr. moved and Trustee David R. Dyson seconded approval of a street closure for 137th–138th Street and Trumbull on April 19, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Robbins Park District Easter Egg Hunt. The same roll-call result was recorded: ayes from Trustees Dyson, Maxey, Harper and Collier; Trustees Jackson and Robinson absent, and the motion carried.
Clerk Sharon Dyson presented revenue items for March 11–April 7, 2025: transfer stamp tax $825.00; flea market receipts $10,115.00; community center rentals $1,530.00; vehicle stickers $485.00; and senior vehicle stickers $320.00. The meeting materials and announcements also listed several community events and resident resources, including the Robbins Park District & Robbins Friends of the Park Easter Egg Hunt on April 19, Cook County Leak Repair enrollment information, a property-tax exemptions workshop April 9 at Valley Kingdom Ministries with Cook County Assessor outreach, a park renaming ceremony dedicating Celebration Park to the Henry “Maurice” Nesbit Memorial Park on April 19, a recycle and resource fair at Wm Leonard Public Library on April 19, and Robbins Community Cleanup scheduled for April 26 with shredding, e-waste recycling and bulk-item pickup.
During standing committee remarks, the mayor announced temporary committee chair assignments for the next 30 days. Trustee Michael Collier Sr. reiterated information about water-assistance resources and said public works is preparing for summer operations, thanking Mr. Cooper for his work.
During public comment, resident Danita Allen thanked Mayor Bryant for sponsoring a student trip to visit Historically Black Colleges and Universities; she said 36 students participated. The meeting adjourned at 7:29 p.m. after a motion by Trustee Ernest Maxey Jr. and a second by Trustee Michael Collier Sr., with a unanimous affirmative vote.
