Robbins mayor announces 30-day transition, chief of police search and April 29 swearing-in

Robbins — Mayor Darren E. Bryant told the Village of Robbins board and attendees at the April 22 regular meeting that the village will be "in transition for the next thirty days" and thanked the current board for its service.
Bryant said the village has an open chief of police position and that officials hope to have a candidate chosen in May "before summer." He also announced a special meeting to swear in the incoming board at the community center on April 29 at 7 p.m.
The board approved two sets of minutes during the meeting. Trustee Thomas Harper moved to approve the April 8, 2025 minutes; Trustee Ernest Maxey Jr. seconded. The roll call for that motion recorded ayes from David R. Dyson, Ernest Maxey Jr. and Thomas Harper Jr., an abstention from Trustee Gregory N. Jackson and absences for Trustees Tiffany S. Robinson and Michael Collier Sr.; the motion carried. Harper later moved, and Trustee Gregory N. Jackson seconded, approval of the October 8, 2024 minutes; the roll call recorded ayes from David R. Dyson, Ernest Maxey Jr., Thomas Harper Jr. and Gregory N. Jackson and the motion carried.
The village also publicized the Robbins Community Cleanup 2025, scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 13800 Trumbull Ave. The event will include volunteer trash pickup from 10 a.m. to noon, paper shredding from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., electronic waste recycling from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and curbside bulk-item pickup beginning at 6 a.m.
Trustee Gregory N. Jackson offered final remarks to the board and public, thanking residents for allowing him to serve as trustee for the past four years. "I thank the citizens for allowing me to serve as trustee these past four years," Jackson said. Trustees Ernest Maxey Jr., Thomas Harper Jr. and David R. Dyson and Clerk Sharon Dyson each expressed appreciation for Jackson's service.
During the public-comment portion, residents asked whether Jackson will continue community work after his term. Ms. Fulson asked if he would remain part of Rain Ready and assist the Festival Committee; Ms. Murphy, noting Jackson's role as vice president of his block club, urged him to take a more active role; and Ms. Echols recounted Jackson's prior assistance to residents and said his decision to run helped move the village "in the right direction."
Trustee Maxey moved to adjourn the meeting; Trustee Dyson seconded. A unanimous affirmative vote was recorded and the meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m.
The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for May 13; the special swearing-in is April 29 at 7 p.m. at the community center.
