The Chehalis City Council on March 9 approved a ratified collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the Chehalis Police Officers Guild and several other labor agreements following executive session.
City negotiators said the guild ratified the agreement and that a key city objective was to reduce the bank of comp time; the negotiated changes lower the comp‑time cap from 360 hours to 260 hours under the new agreement and to 240 hours beginning in 2028, which staff said would reduce the city’s contingent liability when officers cash out comp‑time. ‘‘One of the targets with that is because it's basically … the larger that bank is, the bigger liability we have to that,’’ a city labor negotiator told the council.
The council approved the Police Officers Guild contract and later approved Teamsters Local 252 non‑commissioned and non‑uniform CBAs and proposed changes for non‑represented employees. All motions were passed by voice vote after executive session.
Next steps: staff will execute the agreements and implement the new comp‑time rules and contract terms according to the approved language.
