State delays Dundee Road resurfacing contracts; Milwaukee Avenue water‑main work expected to finish by August

Village staff on June 1 told trustees that the Illinois Department of Transportation and related state contracting process delayed awarding a bundle of resurfacing contracts that had been bid in 2025, including Dundee Road. According to staff, many bidders withdrew after an extended pause, and the state will need to relet projects, making a fall 2026 start unlikely and pushing substantial work into next year.
“Because they waited for 15 months between the time of the letting the bid opening and the time when they would have moved forward with the award, all of the contractors who had submitted bids withdrew,” staff said, explaining the need to relet contracts. The village emphasized that this was a state–contractor issue and not a village procurement problem.
Separately, staff reported the Milwaukee Avenue water‑main replacement is proceeding on schedule with completion of the main work expected by the end of the summer (August); restoration work may be staged around peak summer use.
Trustees asked for timelines and were told village staff will continue to monitor state relisting schedules and coordinate on traffic and restoration timing with contractors and utilities.
