Village staff urges residents in targeted tract to use online special census response

Village staff on June 1 notified residents of a targeted special census self‑response for 2026 covering a single census tract that includes new developments east of Wheeling Road. Director Smith said mailings begin tomorrow and each household will receive a 12‑digit code to complete the online survey.
Director Smith said completing the form online reduces the likelihood that a census worker will visit and helps the village avoid extra census costs. “If you respond now online, that’ll prevent a census worker from coming to your house to ask you the same question,” Smith said, noting the town’s goal is to increase the population count used for state revenue distributions.
He cautioned residents that if they believe they are in the tract but do not receive the mailed code they should watch for the four scheduled mailings; in the absence of a mailing, a census worker may visit to complete the count because the Census Bureau protects household privacy and does not release mailing lists to municipalities.
The announcement included a map of the tract that staff said will be displayed on the meeting screen and lists of neighborhoods included (Uptown 500, One Wheeling Place, London Crossing, Hollywood Ridge, South Dunhurst, Long Treat and Eastchester).
