Marshall County officials heard a presentation on June 1 from Sarah Van Bacter (owner and CEO of Soan Media Marketing Company), who proposed a one-year trial communications partnership to increase public awareness of county road projects and other county work using photography, videography and social-media management. The proposal would produce two to three weekly updates and costs $1,300 per month ($15,600 annually).
Why it matters: Commissioners said better public communication could show taxpayers what the county is accomplishing and reduce complaints by making before-and-after work visible. Several commissioners asked for a written proposal packet and examples of similar projects and suggested they would consult the county council before any contract decision.
During Q&A, commissioners noted the county already has an app but said social-media reach could reach residents who do not download the app; staff asked Sarah to provide case studies and refine a plan tailored to county needs. Commissioners did not vote and asked staff to pursue further conversation with the council.
