Lower Gwynedd approves multimodal and park grant applications totaling over $1.1 million

Lower Gwynedd Township supervisors on July 23 authorized two grant applications to fund transportation and park improvements.
The board approved submission of a multimodal transportation grant application for $229,300 to complete a trail connection between the train station and Pen-Ambler Park, including crosswalks and pedestrian-access upgrades. Staff said the township was previously awarded $250,000 through the MCO 2040 program to be used as match for the multimodal funding.
Separately, the board authorized an application to the Department of Community and Economic Development for a Local Share Account (LSA) grant of $930,000 to advance the Anrol Park project. The proposed LSA scope includes a picnic grove, memorial entry plaza, tot-lot, batting cage, pollinator garden, stormwater improvements and conduit for future electrical work. Staff explained that while some grant-funded items require removal of an on-site building, the township has anticipated funds in its budget for demolition should the board later decide to demolish the structure.
Members noted prior funding commitments from state sources: staff said Senator Maria Collett has already provided funding for earlier project phases; the LSA application is intended to complete the final phase of the master plan. Both grant-submission motions were moved, seconded and carried.
Next steps: township manager and staff were authorized to submit the applications and execute required forms; staff will coordinate timelines and match funds if awards are received.
