Township manager Mr. Vimisol told commissioners a recent inspection found the small culvert on Meeting House Road unsafe for vehicle traffic and the roadway will be closed until engineers produce a full evaluation and a timeline for repair or replacement.
"It was determined that the bridge was no longer safe for full vehicle access," Vimisol said, explaining the township will coordinate an engineering assessment, consider an emergency permit to accelerate work, and post detour signage so residents and school bus operators are informed. He emphasized the decision was made from a safety perspective.
Engineer Ross displayed a detour route using Fischerville Road, North Bailey Road and Kings Highway and estimated about four to five minutes of added travel time for most drivers. Residents asked whether grant funding might offset repair costs; staff said grants will be explored but applying for grants can delay work because many programs require work not to begin until funds are awarded.
Officials said the township will pursue a cost estimate, coordinate necessary permits including a PA1 call, and return to commissioners with a recommended schedule and funding plan. No firm timeline or cost estimate was available at the meeting.
Next steps: engineering assessment, permit strategy (possible emergency permit), public notification of detour routes and cost estimate to be presented to the board.
