The Events Committee approved multiple event plans and fee policies for summer and fall at its June 1 meeting, including landscaping for a July 3 Liberty Tree dedication, a July 4 balloon festival and a September Harvest Moon festival at Shelley Park.
The committee voted to approve landscaping and installation of a flower bed around the Liberty Tree with a materials estimate of $150; labor and construction were reported to be provided at no cost. A motion to approve the flower bed was moved and passed by voice vote.
The committee also approved a July 4 'Balloonfest' at Shelley Park scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. that will include live music and balloon attractions. The motion included the event budget as described to the committee: music estimated at $300 for three hours, balloon operator fees listed at $250 per balloon (three balloons estimated for two hours) and an estimated $200 propane cost reported as provided by Harkcon Construction. The assembled package was described by members as totaling roughly $1,250 with an estimated net to the township of $750. The motion passed by voice vote.
Members moved and approved relocating the Harvest Moon festival to Shelley Park on Sept. 26, with music by the band Famous Rumors at a contract cost of $950. Vendor booths will be $30; a rain date of Sept. 27 was set and applications were posted on the township website.
On vendor revenue, the committee debated flat fees versus percentages and approved a sliding fee for food trucks attending the July 4 and Harvest Moon events: 10% of gross receipts up to the first $250, then 20% thereafter. Committee members emphasized negotiating with vendors if needed and expressed a preference for a percentage over a flat fee for early, lower-attendance events.
A motion to approve the April 6, 2026 meeting minutes was also moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The committee did not record formal roll-call tallies in the transcript; each motion was described as moved, seconded and approved by the chair by voice vote. No amendments to the motions were recorded at the meeting.
Next steps noted by members include vendor outreach, confirming logistics with service providers and posting vendor applications online.
