Jeff craige head, identifying himself as a cyclist and volunteer planning-team member for the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National MS Society, addressed the Voorhees Township Committee during public comment on June 24 to thank the township for past support and to outline the scale and logistics of the upcoming Bike MS ride.
Jeff stressed the event’s fundraising impact and research support: “the National MS Society has funded a billion dollars to date,” he said, and added that “just in this year alone 374 projects to the tune of $40 million are being funded.” He described local participation: “last year we had close to 4,500 Riders and we raised 4.3 million,” noting the ride is among the largest in the country and that Voorhees plays a key role because of its proximity to the start line.
He gave dates and timing for the local event — the last weekend in September, Sept. 28–29 — and sketched route and crossing details, saying riders will affect Crescent Road and Centennial Boulevard crossings, likely between about 6:00 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday and spread later into the day Sunday. He said organizers work with police to minimize traffic impact and that volunteers help by staffing rest stops and handing out advance notices to households along the route.
Jeff appealed for volunteers and participation: the ride relies on roughly 1,200 volunteers in addition to thousands of riders, he said, and urged local residents, student groups and town commissions to help. The mayor thanked the organizers and said he would dedicate one of his weekly columns to the event.
What happens next: organizers will continue outreach and coordination with Voorhees police; residents who want to volunteer are directed to Bike MS sign-up resources.
