Coweta County board tentatively adopts $42.8 million FY2027 budget

The Coweta County Board of Education on June 2 moved to tentatively adopt a $42,781,071 budget for fiscal year 2027, approving a general fund of $324,789,568 and the salary schedules used to compile the plan. The motion carried unanimously.

Assistant Superintendent for Finance Keith Chapman told the board the tentative budget reflects two required work sessions and includes federal programs such as Title I and IDEA. Chapman said the district is using projected local tax-digest figures and plans to publish the budget as required; final adoption is expected at the board’s June 23 meeting after the advertised public notice and when the county tax digest is finalized in late July or early August.

Board members confirmed the budget is based on current federal funding assumptions and a projected millage rate of 15 mills with no class-size increase, per a class-size resolution adopted in April. Chapman noted May revenues were roughly $330,000 over projection and that sales tax collections showed a roughly 4.06% year‑over‑year increase; he also said cumulative figures reflect state-pushed bonuses and that approximately $4.7 million in state funds are available to offset those bonus costs.

The board’s vote to tentatively adopt the FY27 budget was 7–0. The board will advertise the budget and return for a formal adoption vote on June 23.
