Paris Burton of Sedexo presented the district’s summer feeding program to the board on June 2, describing both the usual school-linked summer feeding and a new 7-day bulk-meal pickup option that will be available to children 18 and under at three pickup locations: Fenel Elementary School, Estol Elementary and North District. Burton said pickups will occur twice weekly, on Monday and Thursday, and that registration will be required via an online link.
"Children 18 and under are able to receive 7-day meals," Burton said, and she reported that the district had about 60 families registered within the first day of posting the information.
Dr. Sheffield provided several superintendent updates: invitation-only ribbon-cutting for the new Hampton County High School is scheduled for July 9, and community tours of the new facility are scheduled for July 22 and 23 with morning and afternoon sessions. The district’s summer office hours will run June 5 through July 31 (Monday–Thursday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.). Dr. Sheffield also noted an upcoming county-council budget appearance on June 8 and an adult-education graduation on June 17.
Board members thanked Sedexo for the meal program and asked staff to coordinate outreach with community organizations and private schools to get flyers and registration information to families and camps. The board encouraged organizations running summer camps to contact the district if they need meal support.
