The council heard the December financial report on Jan. 26 from Assistant Finance Director Bob Tanahill, who said the city is eight months into its fiscal year and total revenues represented about 53% of the budget while expenditures stood around 70%.
Tanahill cited strong performance in sales tax, non‑home‑rule sales tax, video gaming and interest income — several revenue lines are exceeding 75% of budget — and said income tax collections remain consistent with prior years. "We are eight months into our fiscal year. At this point in time, the city total revenues represent about 53% of the budget, while expenses are 70% of the budget," Tanahill said.
He outlined results from recent collection campaigns: letters sent for delinquent sewer bills produced responses from about 90 residents and collections of roughly $22,000 of an indicated $35,000 balance; a vehicle‑sticker delinquency campaign netted about $117,000, including approximately $77,000 in late fees and $40,000 in sticker purchases. Tanahill said staff will follow collection procedures for a remaining set of accounts and will send additional notices after the February payment deadline.
Tanahill also reported a small number of late payments for places‑for‑eating and hotel taxes; staff expect those receipts to arrive soon. The clerk presented warrants and wires totaling $811,989 for council approval later in the meeting.
Councilors asked routine follow‑up questions about collections timing and outreach; staff said vehicle‑sticker renewal notices will be mailed and online and in‑person payment options are available.
The finance office will continue monitoring revenue performance and will report back as collection efforts progress.
