Rutherford County’s Public Works and Planning Committee voted June 2 to permit staff to apply for a matching grant of up to $100,000, with the county providing a 50% match, to purchase two compactors for the Lever convenience site.
Matt Davis, Solid Waste and Convenience Centers Director, described the request to the committee and said the funding would be used specifically for two compactors at Lever. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the grant cap and matching requirements before moving and seconding the motion. A roll call showed every commissioner present voting in favor and the motion passed.
Davis had earlier reported department monthly figures for May, including 178.2 tons of brush processed and a 12.6% recycling rate.
Staff will proceed with the grant application and return with any required documents or contracts for the County Commission if the grant award requires formal acceptance.
